As a group we wanted to practice using projected shadows. We have decided to use the studio and strobe lights because we can use the space to control lighting.
We booked a studio and today we went in to test the way we could do the lighting.
We tried to use Acetate and black it out with Black Gaffer tape. This was put in front of barn door attached to a strobe light but this didnt project a contrasted shadow. I then thought that it needed to be closer to the strobe but again it wasnt what we wanted.
After thinking for some time I replaced the acetate with a plastic negative holder because it was a solid piece with holes where light could be passed through. We placed this very close to the background because I remember experimenting in a Lighting session last Semester with Rob that the closer the light subject to the background the harsher the shadows.

1st tries
With this in mind we tried this and it worked just fine. The only problem we did have was the fact that the plastic holder was in front of the subject/background and therefore it would be in the shoot.
We continued to trial different ways and we eventually found that having the light source 3/4 to the side and then holding the plastic holder to the side also helped eliminate the problem of having plastic holder in the frame even when the holder was straight up to where a model would be. (see below)
We tried this on a few clothing items to see how it may look.
Orange Gel used
Yellow Gel
We tried some gels to see what it would be like and we wanted to give some of the final shoot images a sense of warm glow to some, so this may help!
