Hussein Chalayan. Fashion shows

I have looked at some of the work by Hussein Chalayan. He does amazing setups and shows for his runways.

I looked at the his AW 2007 show at the following link: http://www.husseinchalayan.com/#/videos.2007.2007_a_w_airborne/

He had dresses made from lights which I thought was very clever.

Wiring. Technology

When as a group we discussed ideas that came from lighting and then wiring or cabling, I thought about how cabling is used to aid communication, it also being a part of technology.

I thought about how much we rely on technology and that this dependency although essential at times it can also be a restricting phenomena because we cant escape it.

We can across a couple of images that had models wrapped or tangled up in wiring. Another thought I had was that of a model being connected (plugged into) to an electrical socket because going on from being caught up in technology, we are becoming an appendage to and apart of the worldwide movement of technology.

I like this image as it suggests and hints to the point that the model could be connected into the wiring without it actually showing it. it only shows wiring all around the model. The posing works well. It expresses a vulnerable and helpless position to the model as she lies flat on the floor.

Lamp to lights to Cabling

Our ideas have recently included the use of lighting and cables as a step on from the original lamp object.

As I have looked through Fashion imagery in magazines I have been surprised at the amount of shoots that have included lighting as part of the shoot. Some of the images seem to include the lighting at the post production stage, and they are still effective images.

Here are only a few. Eve and Terri were also sourcing images and some of their's have influenced the patttern of thought for lighting and cabling.

Lamp and Colours

Here we have it. The Objet Trouve (no its not spelt wrong).

Having done some very brief research from my initial thoughts of mining, and later railways. I have since spoken to the Stylists who have directed my attention the colours of the item and then linking this to clothing and the latest colours of Red and Metallic Gold and silver.

Still in this early stage of collating ideas, this contributes nicely to what will be the overall look of the fashion shoot.

So we have possible locations, clothing and styling! More to come. We have to find a model and ways to do that also.

Railway Lamps

I did another search on Railway Lamps, having heard that this is probably closer to what the Lamp we have been given is.

Having connected the lamp to railway, i still think about industry, journey's, transport and commerce.

I have often thought of using railway lines within a fashion shoot and I have seen the railway as a location.

The Lamp is the start

This is the start of the brainstorming for a fashion project relating to an old Lamp received during yesterday's lecture.

A picture of the Lamp will be posted soon.

I have ran an image search for 'old miners Lamps' because the lamp reminds me of it being used back in the day down in the mines. I dont really know if it is a miners lamp, however I have come across some images that look similar.

I also think of the lamp as a tool to pave the way in walking through tunnels, obviously I'm thinking of being underground in the miners tunnels.
Other words that come from this intial connection to the mines are: gritty, uncomfortable, dated, instrument/tool, industry and energy.
